News worm

Know-it-all computer worm Kedebe-F pretends to be the source of all breaking news stories but fall for its lies and you’ll put your computer’s security at risk.

The Kedebe-F worm spreads by claiming that Osama bin Laden has been captured or that the author of the MyDoom worm has been arrested.

Or it also spreads sick conspiracy theories about the death of the late Pope John Paul II or claims that Michael Jackson has died.

"Internet criminals have no respect for taste and decency. All they're interested in is making money for themselves, and making other computer users' lives a misery," said Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant for Sophos.

"Hackers are constantly trying to dupe computer users into running malicious code with the promise of breaking news stories. Using the late Pope's name is a sick trick designed to fool the unwary.”

Users who fall for Kedebe-F’s various tricks, and launch the attached file, risk disabling their security software and passing the infection onto other computer users.

Email users are reminded to practise safe computing as well as running up-to-date anti-virus software.
