Yahoo has launched a beta version of an audio search tool that searches 35 million files from major music services and independent publishers.
In addition to music, Yahoo Audio Search also lists other audio files, including podcasts, newscasts, speeches, and interviews.
The tool also includes a price comparison service allowing UK web users to shop around online for best buys.
Web users already subscribed to an online music service can user the Preferred Audio Service function, a feature which identifies a users’ service and finds audio files from their favourite provider.
Salim Mitha, director of Yahoo Search UK, said: “With Yahoo Audio Search, users have a starting-point for finding all audio-related content available on the web, making it easy for users to find music available online and compare prices between services.
“The new Audio Search facility complements music services by providing consumers with access to an extensive array of other audio-related content such as podcasts, spoken word, music videos and artist websites.”
