NTL is testing 100Mbps broadband for home customers.
NTL’s director of network strategy Kevin Baughan told Web User that the trials, in conjunction with networking company Arris, will start in March, and that he hoped by using the high speeds, coupled with peer-to-peer software from BitTorrent, people will be able to download a movie in the same time it take to make a cup of coffee.
“We are exploring the technical side,” he said. “We hope it will take 10 minutes to download a film.”
Baughan said that the technology will also allow NTL to broadcast several channels of high definition TV over the internet.
