Web users struggling to find answers to their questions via traditional search engines can now tap into other people’s knowledge at a new Lycos site.

Called Lycos iQ, the service lets people ask and answer questions, and through a series of ranking and awarding points to people who regularly offer good information, sorts the answers to make them more reliable.

To start using the site people need to register and create a profile, adding tags
to subjects that they feel they are an expert in.

Lycos iQ then offers a range of options – such as the ability to subscribe to RSS feeds in subject areas you are interested in.

Chief product officer James Grabisch told Web User Lycos has the largest chat community in Europe and he hoped that Lycos iQ would build on that heritage.

He said that if a question has already been asked and answered, a result will appear automatically and as the community using Lycos iQ grows, the pool of knowledge will increase.
