UK sets text messaging record

UK mobile users sent 3.19 billion text messages in March, a new record.

According to The Mobile Data Association the previous highest monthly total was 3.11 billion in December 2005.

Its figures show that the number of sent last month was up 24 per cent compared to the same period in 2005.

On average, 103 million messages were sent per day during March 2006.

The MDA said the record number was boosted by people texting on Mother’s Day, 26 March.
