Tennis fans will for the first time get live video via the web from this year’s Wimbledon.

Live and on demand video are part of a major upgrade to the official site of the tournament, which begins on 26 June. An 'All Access Pass' will cost £9.95 if bought before July 26, £12.95 afterwards. Day passes cost £2.50 from June 26 until July 2, £4.50 after that.

A new feature called PointTracker uses animated graphics to show the position of the ball as it travels over the net, and means that web users can simulate sitting courtside while watching the ball in play.

Site manager Andy Burns, from IBM, told Web User that the site is extremely comprehensive, with live scoring updates on the site changing 200,000 each day during Wimbledon fortnight.

Last year, 4.6 million users visited the site a total of 30 million times, which features point-by point scoring updates, match statistics, and weather forecasts. News by Day features the latest headlines and commentary from experienced tennis writers who update the site daily.

For more Wimbledon coverage, the BBC site will be streamlining matches shown on television directly to their site with the option of viewing up to five courts live.
