CNN.com has launched a free video podcasting service featuring top stories and reports from its correspondents around the globe.
The videos are initially available in six different categories and can be downloaded from iTunes or the CNN.com website, which now attracts around 23 million unique users a month.
CNN says the format will help enable the broadcast of more raw footage, high-impact video or edgy satirical content.
David Payne, senior vice president of CNN.com, said he hopes the service will help expand the sites overall audience by attracting younger, more web-savvy users.
“Podcasting draws a whole new audience who are generally younger than users or CNN.com users or viewers. They were raised during the age of the internet and don’t necessarily want to see polished newscasts,” he says.
“These downloads are produced in a format that fit the fast paced lives and interests of the podcast generation.”
The videos include a behind the scenes look at the organisation, a daily news wrap, a satirical look at news stories from around the world and a consumer gadget show.
