Microsoft has updated a critical security patch after it was revealed the original version was causing people on dial-up connections problems.

The first patch was designed to repair two high-risk security flaws which could allow a hacker to take-over an unsecured PC. However, it was soon discovered that the patch could interfere with some dial-up networking connections.

Microsoft said people with dial-up connections that use a terminal window, or dial-up scripting, were encountering problems with their connection responding after the patch was added.

Microsoft said people unaffected by the problem do not need to install the update.
