BT has been named the best performing ADSL ISP in a broadband report.
The new quarterly study from Epitiro uses software that checks features such as speed and connection failures every 15 minutes.
The company looked at results from 10 locations around the UK, and judged that BT was the best, followed by Virgin, Demon, AOL and Orange.
Gavin Johns, managing director of Epitiro, said: “Our consumer ADSL testing found that in terms of internet performance, BT topped the overall rankings for the period April to June 2006. BT was also found to provide the fastest service as a percentage of its theoretical maximum.
“Virgin, BT and AOL were the fastest services to actually connect to the internet, while Pipex, Orange and BT were up to four times faster than the industry average at delivering email.”
He continued: “Consumers want a fast, reliable and resilient internet service. As well as monitoring service reliability, [our software] provides real-time data on the speed of internet connections, how long it takes to connect to the internet, the performance of email services, file upload and download speeds and performance of both PING and DNS lookup – and all from the customer’s perspective.”
The Quarterly Consumer ADSL Report is the first time Epitiro has publicly released its data.
