Royal Mail has launched a new service that lets customers pay and print stamps online and avoid lengthy queues at their local post office. According to Royal Mail, customers can now print a barcode onto envelopes, labels or paper after finding out the cost of their postage online. People pay for the service by debit or credit card or pre-pay account, and then post letter and packages in the normal way. Royal Mail customers can choose first class and international services, as well as print out the necessary forms online, including a Certificate of Posting and Customs forms for international post. Royal Mail’s marketing director Alex Batchelor said: "We have launched this service in response to demands from the general public who want to be able to buy and print their postage online, direct onto an envelope or a label." Royal Mail launched a similar service in 2004 called SmartStamp, that lets people create their own stamps online and print them directly onto envelopes for a monthly subscription of £4.99 and an annual fee of £49.99. A Royal Mail, spokesman, told Web User:“SmartStamp is aimed at businesses that are likely to spend more than £500 a year for their postages. While the new Royal Mail ‘pay as you go’ service is aimed at individuals and small businesses – there is a minimum fee of £3.50.” Separately, parents will soon be able to apply and check their kids school admission online as part of the eAdmissions National Project.
