Sony Ericsson is planning to launch a music download service to let people download music to their handsets.
The mobile phone maker will launch the new service, called M-Buzz, for its line of Walkman phones in October.
Sony Ericsson owners will be able to download tracks from the PlayNow service on their phone menu and from M-Buzz website.
The service will offer tracks from new and developing artists as well as videos, biographies and gig schedules.
Martin Blomkvist, head of content acquisition and partner management at Sony Ericsson, said: “M-BUZZ is all about breaking new artists; it’s about giving tomorrow’s stars, the artists that have not yet been picked up by major record companies, the exposure they deserve and the possibility for them to reach a wider audience."
The service will first be available on the W850i and W950i Walkman phones. Prices are yet to be revealed but a spokeswoman for Sony told Web User: "It will be the cost of download rather than subscription. M-Buzz will be cheaper than PlayNow, where downloading a chart costs between 2 and 3 Euros."
