Fashion designers are poised to take on eBay, claiming online sale of counterfeit goods have damaged profits.

Louis Vuitton and Christian Dior have filed a £25m lawsuit in their native France.

They claim that eBay doesn’t do enough to monitor sales of counterfeit goods.

However, eBay's French arm is staying by its auction technique, saying it will pull dodgy goods when notified.

Earlier this year jewellers Tiffany started legal proceedings against eBay because of knock-off goods.
