Skype users can now make free phone calls from mobile handsets at Wi-Fi hotspots across the UK.
Internet communication company Skype has teamed up with wireless broadband network operator The Cloud to provide instant connections for Skype users when they are within range of one of The Cloud's 8,500 hotspots.
To access the service users have to buy a Skype-enabled phone from SMC Networks priced at €189 (about £135), excluding local taxes and a monthly fee of £7.
SMC Network's Wi-Fi Phone allows free calls to Skype users anywhere in the world and low cost calls to ordinary landlines and mobiles from the mobile handset.
It is available now to buy online at Dabs.com, Broadbandstuff.co.uk, Ebuyer.com, Multitask-computing.co.uk and Uk.insight.com.
The Cloud has more than 8,500 hotspots in several locations across the UK including airports, hotels and railway stations and it has started to deploy a large network of hotspots in nine cities across the UK including London and Manchester.
