Despite the poor results so far, surfers are more interested in the current Ashes tour than they were in last summer's series.

Sports fans are searching in huge numbers for ‘the Ashes’ so they can get score updates and the latest news reports.

According to the internet measurement company, traffic to the Cricinfo website has increased by 20 per cent from the August peak during the 2005 Ashes Tour.

The BBC has picked up nearly 30 per cent of all searches on the term ‘the Ashes’ followed by The Sun and Times Online.
