BT has announced that Wi-Fi capable handsets for its BT Fusion package will be available in Phones4U stores in the Spring of this year.
BT Fusion is a service that offers users converged mobile and landline telephone services, using just one handset. To take advantage of BT Fusion you have to be signed up to BT's Total Broadband package.
There are a variety of different pricing plans, though customers generally pay less when they are using the phone while at home rather than as a mobile when they are out of range of their BT Home Hub.
Handsets with Wi-Fi capabilities mean that users of BT Fusion will be able to use BT's Openzone hotspots to use their BT Fusion phones as if they were at home, taking advantage of the cheaper rates.
"These latest free handsets will allow customers the freedom to just make the calls and surf the web via BT broadband without having to think twice," said Steve Andrews, BT chief's of Mobility and Convergence.
BT hopes that the new handsets will increase the number of people using this service. Phones4U will be stocking the Nokia 6136, the Motorola A910 and the Samsung P200 in its stores across the UK.
"Our deal with Phones4U will make Fusion available on the High Street for the first time, as well as online and by calling BT. This mobile service is a great example of our convergence strategy to keep customers well connected wherever they are," said Andrews.
