NTL rebranding details emerge

Customers in Blackpool, Wigan and Preston will benefit from the speed increase

NTL:Telewest, which is due to rebrand as Virgin Media next month, has launched a website to give existing customers more information about the changes.

The new website, called Know First, gives customers the chance to find out about the services Virgin Media will offer when the new company emerges. NTL bought the Virgin Mobile brand from Virgin for £900m, as Web User reported in April last year.

Virgin Media will offer customers a converged broadband, TV, landline and mobile phone service.

Customers will be able to mix and match which options they want in each of the four areas. For broadband, TV and landline calling there are three options - Medium, Large and XLarge to choose from.

The Medium broadband package offers a 2Mbps connection, the Large option gives you a 4Mbps line, and the XLarge package connection speed is 10Mbps. The latter two options also come with extra security features. A fair usage policy applies to all of these options, and the security features will not be available to Mac owners.

Existing NTL customers will be able to keep their current email addresses or change them for @virginmedia.com addresses if they wish. The same applies to those with Telewest and Blue Yonder email addresses.

There are three TV packages available to customers, Medium, Large and XLarge. They offer 39, 83, and 129 channels respectively, as well as a library of on-demand content including films and dramas.

The landline calling packages offer either unlimited landline calls at the weekend for the Medium deal, unlimited calls at evenings and weekends for the Large option, and unlimited calls at all times with the XLarge package. The calls are free for the first hour, then 3p per minute after that. Mobile phone customers will be able to choose from pay-as-you-go or pay monthly packages.

Virgin Media is expected to go live on 14 February, when the VirginMedia.com website will bring full details of the services on offer and pricing.
