The Ideal Home Show began at London's Earls Court this morning with some concept products designed for the home of the future on display.
Including an oven that cooks dinner for you while you're on your way home from work and a digital wallet that unifies credit and travel documents into a single device, the gadgets have been designed by students from six UK universities.
Plymouth University student Matt Hyne's idea, The Internet Flora, allows surfers to browse through a florist's catalogue on the internet, while "a beautiful aroma of appropriate flowers" is generated by a rapid prototyping machine.
The competition, 2020 Living, challenges wannabe designers to come up with products that "respond to a way of life that is futuristic but not too far away," according to the competition's organisers. Students from Brunel, Derby, Kingston, Nottingham Trent, Plymouth and Sheffield Hallam universities were invited to enter.
The ideas will be on display for the duration of the Ideal Home Show and one winner will be picked to win a two week work placement in a design studio that specialises in furniture and product design.
You can see all the ideas and vote for your favourite design at the show's website.
