A man who was selling large quantities of pirated DVDs on eBay has been arrested.

Trading Standards officers, working alongside the Metropolitan Police, raided the home of a 22-year-old man in Canning Town in east London, seizing several hundred discs containing shows such as The Sopranos and 24. Computer equipment was also seized.

The Federation Against Copyright Theft (FACT), a body that represents the interests of copyright holders in the UK, warned pirates that they would be targeted.

“Whilst we are working more closely with sites such as eBay to enforce our members’ copyrights, there are still those who persist in listing counterfeit DVDs for criminal gain," said Kieron Sharp, director general of FACT.

The news comes just one week after eBay announced that it would be cracking down on people using its service to sell pirated goods and published a guide written by FACT advising the public how to spot pirated DVDs.

"We will continue to actively pursue such illegal traders who are openly flouting the law,” said Sharp.
