A campaign to highlight the prevalence of spyware on the average computer has been launched. Panda Software, a security company, has set up a website at www.infectedornot.com where you can go to check whether your PC has picked up any programs that could be reporting on your activities to online criminals. Two products, Panda NanoScan and Panda TotalScan, are available to download from the site. The programs are both still in beta and are not scheduled to launch until next month, but Panda is offering free downloads of the beta versions now. Mark Watkinson of Panda Software said: “Even with popular anti-virus packages installed, PC users are not guaranteed to remain protected against new and innovative malware. "I urge users to make the most of this service. Just don’t be surprised if it finds malware!” Spyware is a broad term used to describe programs that have been installed on a PC without the owner's knowledge. One example of spyware is a 'keylogger', which records the keystrokes made and the order they were made in. http://www.infectedornot.com/
