Be careful when you drink and surf. According to new research, people in the UK are dangerously prone to giving away personal information online when drunk. And a survey from online payment service PayPal, a division of eBay, suggests that it isn't just those under the influence who reveal secrets online. Seven per cent of those questioned admitted to telling complete strangers about their love life, and 11 per cent discuss medical problems with people they've never met. Cristina Hoole of PayPal said: "People in Britain aren’t backwards in coming forwards, and seem to have a no holds barred policy when it comes to revealing information about themselves. Fifteen per cent of people questioned said that they were drunk when they revealed personal information online. And if we're prepared to give these secrets away, it's possible that we could also be careless with personal financial information. "Britons admitted to sharing anything from medical problems to love life problems with almost total strangers. However, we also saw a lot of people regretting it the next day, often with a hangover to boot,” said Hoole. “There is of course a serious point to be made; people need to be careful about giving away too much information such as financial or medical details to people they do not know which can leave you open to unscrupulous people out there,” Hoole added. http://www.paypal.co.uk/
