If you are a customer of BT, Demon or Pipex, chances are you enjoy a better connection speed, less downtime and fewer connection failures than your friends who use other providers.

Epitiro, a web monitoring company, has issued statistics for the first quarter of 2007 which name BT, Demon, AOL, Pipex and TalkTalk as the best broadband providers in terms of customer experience.

The Internet Performance Indicator (IPI) report for the first part of this year saw two ISPs - Orange and Virgin - drop out of the top five, to be replaced by the Carphone Warehouse's two brands, AOL and TalkTalk.

“In terms of technical performance, BT, Demon and Pipex are consistently maintaining their presence in the top five,” said Gavin Johns, Managing Director of Epitiro.

The 10 largest consumer ADSL providers in the UK were assessed. More than 630,000 real-time data samples were collected from 11 different locations from 1 January to 31 March, with each service tested more than 57,000 times.

“This report measures key metrics that give a full indication of connection quality, statistics that the customer wouldn’t necessarily be aware of but that have a real impact on their online experience," said Johns.

However, the IPI report does not take customer service issues such as technical support into account.
