British people lose their stiff upper lips while surfing the web, leading us to give away too much personal information. Seventeen per cent of men and 13 per cent of women have used online dating sites, sharing personal details with strangers before checking they were who they said they were, according to research. Security company Symantec conducted a survey of 2,272 people and found that one in three had applied for a new job while at work, posting CVs including mobile numbers and email addresses on job websites. Caroline Cockerill, internet security advocate with Symantec, said Brits need to be more cautious when it comes to sharing their personal information online. "It is important to remember that you are often putting yourself, your personal information as well as your photographs, music and memories at potential risk if you share such details with insecure websites or with complete strangers online, who might not have your best intentions at heart," said Cockerill. www.symantec.com
