Sky has added more than a quarter of a million customers to its broadband network in the last three months.
Sky has added more than a quarter of a million customers to its broadband network in the last three months, according to figures released by the company.
Some 259,000 broadband customers have signed up to Sky's broadband packages in the last quarter, meaning that 716,000 households are now receiving broadband from Sky.
James Murdoch, Sky's chief executive said: "We are adding more broadband customers than any other provider and we will continue to deliver a superior customer experience, investing in the products and services customers want."
However, Sky has got a long way to go to catch up with BT, who since adding PlusNet to its stable has some 3.6 million broadband customers in the UK. Virgin Media has 3.4 million and the Carphone Warehouse's two offerings, AOL and TalkTalk have around 2.3 million customers between them.
Tiscali and Orange also have more UK broadband subscribers than Sky but the additions in the last quarter have seen it jump ahead of Pipex.
Steve Weller of price comparison service uSwitch.com welcomed Sky's commitment to improving its customer service offering.
"Sky has acknowledged that technical support is a key area for development following our recent poll that showed nearly 6 out of 10 of its customers not satisfied with the level of support they are receiving," Weller said.
Karen Darby of SimplySwitch.com expressed surprise that Sky's public spat with Virgin Media hadn't put new customers off.
"Sky’s dispute with Virgin Media, following their failure to agree on terms for Sky to be carried on Virgin’s cable channels, has been less than positive. It is interesting to see that the negative publicity it created has not deterred partners," she said.
