Web more popular than the pub

If you're looking to spend some quality time on your own, you're most likely to spend it online.

According to a survey by BT's Broadband division, we're more likely to enjoy some 'me time' surfing the web, rather than in the pub, shopping or meeting friends.

More than 80 per cent of women see the internet as the perfect way to relax, and 72 per cent of men admitted spending hours online buying everything from clothing to music.

TV psychologist Professor Geoffrey Beattie said: "In many ways, these figures are not surprising. As a nation we now rely more heavily on the internet than ever before for pursuing hobbies, shopping, socialising and seeking advice.

BT also pinpointed a 'me moment' - 6.31pm - when people choose to escape the daily grind and concentrate on pleasing themselves.

"6.31pm now appears to be the prime time - we are either finishing our working day by logging on for interests outside our job, or choosing to email friends rather than call them or meet for a drink," said Beattie.
