Search giant Google has posted a video on YouTube explaining its stance on privacy in an attempt to put an end to confusion its policies have generated.
The video, entitled Google Search Privacy: Plain and Simple, intends to explain in an accessible way what data is kept when people sign up for a Google account or make a search and why it does so.
"We've been thinking about different ways to help people understand the technical aspects of online privacy, to improve transparency, and to empower you to make informed decisions about how you want to use our services," wrote Peter Fleischer, Google's global privacy counsel, on the Google blog.
Google is also asking for viewer feedback and intends to create more videos to explain the finer points of the various policies.
"Google is committed to being transparent about our privacy practices," said Fleischer.
The video, which is four-and-a-half minutes long, can be seen here.
