Sandisk has announced a new MP3 player in response to Apple's overhaul of the iPod product line.
After Apple launched a new touchscreen iPod and an overhaul of the other iPod product lines last week in California, rival Sandisk has sought to muscle in on the Christmas MP3 player market.
The Sansa View is capable of playing music and video on a 2.4in widescreen colour display and boasts a digital FM radio tuner.
It uses solid-state flash memory as opposed to a conventional hard drive and comes in two capacities - 8GB and 16GB.
"The Sansa View is a new video MP3 player that combines all of the great characteristics of a MP3 player with the video capabilities of a PMP (portable media player), and packs it into a pocketable device," said Eric Bone of Sandisk.
The UK price hasn't been confirmed but is expected to be around £150 for the 8GB version and £200 for the 16GB model, with the products going on sale next month. However, this looks to be quite dear when compared to the suggested retail prices in the US - $149 (about £75) and $199 (£100).
The product was actually first shown off back in January this year, but Sandisk decided to "re-scope the product to develop a player with new features and functionality that best suit current consumer interests," the company said.
Apple's new range of products for Christmas 2007 includes an iPod with a 160GB hard drive and a redesigned iPod nano capable of video playback.
