Cancer charity enters Second Life

Macmillan Cancer Support has announced plans to run its money-raising event –
The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning – in Second Life.

Macmillan Coffee morning

Cancer charity Macmillan will host an auction on Second Life as part of The World's Biggest Coffee Morning, which takes place on Friday 28 September. The auction, which will feature items donated by Second Life members, is part of a drive by Macmillan to raise real-world money in the popular virtual environment. Members will also be able to donate money in giant coffee cups placed throughout Second Life. Macmillan will convert Second Life's Linden dollars raised during the Coffee Morning into real-world money. As soon as the Coffee Morning has ended, Macmillan will open a cancer information centre in Second Life. Users affected by the illness can access information about cancer and seek emotional support. Visitors will also be able to go shopping in the retail area, where they can buy real-world merchandise and gifts from the online catalogue, with all proceeds going to Macmillan. Macmillan will be hoping that members have saved up some spare money since Second Life banned gambling in July. www.macmillan.org.uk http://secondlife.com
