Last.fm pushes for Xmas No. 1

Visitors to Last.fm have chosen Lucky Soul as the band they want to see topping the charts this Christmas.

The campaign aims to help young musicians get their music heard

After a four week campaign, Lucky Soul’s Lips Are Unhappy has won Last.fm's Christmas Chart Attack challenge.

The band, who are described as specialising in lush, lovestruck pop, have now released the single and hope to be top of the charts come Christmas.

The challenge was run with the aim of breaking the X-Factor stranglehold over the Christmas number one spot. Bookmakers William Hill are offering odds of 16 to 1 that Lips Are Unhappy will be number one on Christmas Day.

Lips Are Unhappy is available to pre-order now for 40p and all profits from the release will be given to charity.

Martin Stiksel, Last.fm's co-founder, said: "Lucky Soul have worked hard to make a success of their music on their own terms, and that's the kind of attitude Last.fm encourages. Together we reckon we've got a great chance to give Simon Cowell a run for his money."

Last.fm has some 20 million users, according to the company, and has recently been trying to encourage young musicians to utilise the internet in order to gain recognition.

After a £140m deal in May of this year, Last.fm belongs to American media giant CBS.
