Planned improvements to PlusNet's email service should see customers of the ISP enjoy a more secure experience.
PlusNet, which is owned by BT after a £67m deal in January, will be using Postini technology from early next year to filter its incoming email and hopes to see a significant reduction in spam as a result.
"Our decision to team up with Postini is driven by our commitment to offer our customers the best possible broadband service. Postini's record with email security speaks for itself and we are proud to be associated with them," PlusNet chief executive Neil Laycock said.
The Postini filtering system will ensure that a large volume of spam will not make it on to the PlusNet servers at all, meaning there will be less risk of them becoming overwhelmed.
PlusNet customers will also be able to add email addresses to blacklists manually and will have the option of putting suspicious messages in quarantine.
"PlusNet is one of the most progressive and highly respected internet providers around. With our shared approach of putting the customers first, PlusNet subscribers benefit from having the highest levels of security and protection available," said Peter Lorant of Postini.
The ISP, which has around 200,000 customers in the UK, suffered problems with its email service earlier this year, with many losing the contents of their entire Inbox.
Laycock told Web User that measures had been put in place to ensure this didn't happen again, saying that there had been a "significant investment in infrastructure" since the problems occured.
PlusNet is also to merge operations with ISP Madasafish, part of the Brightview Group, which was bought out by BT earlier this year. However, the two brands will still continue to exist.
Both PlusNet and Madasafish have performed well in ISP customer satisfaction surveys in the last year.
