Social-networking site MySpace has launched a new channel dedicated to charities and social causes.
The channel, called MySpace Impact, lets users start campaigns, offer to volunteer their time and raise money. Users can download a widget to their page linking to Justgiving, letting them collect money for their chosen cause.
MySpace Impact also lets charities set up their own profile page with news, videos, fundraising tools and various campaign resources.
Since the channel’s launch on Monday 8,500 friends have joined. Unicef, RED, Friends of the Earth, Amnesty and Shelter are among the charities that have signed up.
“MySpace Impact is about helping people to take action and make a difference,” said Jamie Kantrowitz, Senior Vice President, Content and Marketing, MySpace International. “Whether it’s global issues or specific, local campaigns, young people are increasingly aware of the issues in their community. MySpace Impact allows them to get their voice heard in a place that’s their own – their MySpace page.”
