Wi-Fi causes Xmas headaches

If you had problems with setting up or connecting to wireless networks over Christmas, you weren't the only one.

Wi-Fi

Technical problems encountered on Christmas day used to involve a simple lack of batteries to power newly-bought gadgets.

But according to BT, Christmas 2007 saw many Brits have difficulties of a more high-tech variety: setting up and connecting to wireless networks.

The company said that nearly a third of the technical support calls it received on Christmas day were wireless-related.

Emma Sanderson of BT said: "This year we received a lot of calls from people struggling to connect to wireless broadband. People were obviously desperate to get their new laptops and handheld multimedia devices up and running on the big day."

"Nowadays if you want to enjoy the features on your mobile device or laptop you need to get online via a wireless connection to surf the net or get access to a Wi-Fi network," Sanderson continued.

However, it wasn't just Wi-Fi that was causing problems for us over the festive season. BT said that 15 per cent of callers were having problems with software programs, ten per cent with digital hardware and a further ten per cent were having trouble with new operating systems.
