More than a third of British consumers are regularly watching on-demand video content, according to a report.
Twice as many Brits are watching on-demand video content on a regular basis than a year ago, according to a survey by ISP Tiscali.
The Tiscali TV Trends Report 2008 reveals that 86 per cent of those watching on-demand TV are watching at least as much TV as they were a year ago.
Surprisingly, most who are watching on-demand content are doing so on their TV sets, with 62 per cent enjoying the experience in their living rooms, compared to 38 per cent who watch on a PC.
But many people who don't watch on-demand services think they are too expensive or aren't aware they can receive them.
Neal McCleave, managing director of media services for Tiscali UK, said: "There is a growing demand among the British population for flexibility in their media consumption."
"As broadcasters worry about the fragmentation of the media audience, they need to look to on-demand television which is proving itself capable of retaining audience share and growing viewing times," he continued.
Tiscali offers its own IPTV and on-demand service, Tiscali TV, though other on-demand services are available through the BBC with its iPlayer, Sky, Virgin Media and BT Vision. Channel 4 also offers the 4oD (4 on demand) service.
"Tiscali TV has been developed for consumers who want more choice and flexibility than Freeview, but don’t see the value in paying over the odds for satellite or cable services," said McCleave.
