BBC revamps its homepage

After making a beta version available last month, the BBC has now officially launched its new-look homepage.

The BBC has overhauled its homepage to make it more customisable for surfers and to freshen up its look.

After launching a beta version in December last year, which visitors could opt to use all the time if they wished, the homepage now has a completely different design and lets you choose where certain content appears.

For example, you can choose where news headlines, TV and radio listings and local news appears on the page, as well as how much emphasis is placed on each.

The page has an entirely new colour scheme and is much more eye-catching than its predecessor. Since the beta version was launched, the design has been fine-tuned based on feedback provided by visitors.

"From a visual point of view, we reduced the size of the fonts, toned down some of the colours and created a more compact, space efficient design," Bronwyn van der Merwe from the BBC's Future Media and Technology division.

"There's also more customisation: users can now choose the colour of the page, or leave it to rotate, picking up the colour of the main feature image," she continued.

The BBC website recently celebrated its 10th birthday.
