Wimbledon coming to BBC iPlayer

The world's most famous tennis tournament may be a few months away yet - but when it arrives there will be a new way of watching it.

The BBC has announced that it will be showing coverage of key matches from the 2008 Wimbledon tournament on its iPlayer service.

It has also said that it plans to broadcast many of the matches in high definition.

The games will be available on iPlayer for UK surfers only and for up to seven days after the match is played.

Roger Mosey, the BBC's director of Sport, said: "The BBC is deeply proud of its historic ties with Wimbledon, but this new agreement is focused on delivering state-of-the-art digital services.

"The BBC's Wimbledon coverage will range from high-definition transmissions from the show courts and greater choice of live action than ever before, through to on-demand highlights that you can watch on your PC or mobile," Mosey continued.

The BBC has tied up a deal with tournament organisers that will give it the exclusive UK broadcasting rights until 2014.

Wimbledon begins on Monday 23 June.
