The BBC News website has had a makeover, offering wider pages, a less cluttered layout and a new masthead.
The changes are part of a strategy that the BBC announced last week.
It includes embedded Flash videos in many articles, larger images and better links to other multimedia offerings such as broadcast news programs. Changes have been made on the BBC Sport website as well.
Steve Herrman, editor of the BBC News website, said that it was "still a work in progress" and more changes would be coming over the next few days.
However, the BBC hasn't scrapped everything and started from scratch.
"It's not a fundamental redesign of everything - many of the basics stay the same because we know they work," Herrman said.
He also said there were some changes that the BBC was keeping up its sleeve for the moment.
"Work will also continue to build in the other improvements and new features we have planned in the coming months," said Herrman.
