Enhance Media's Great British e-test has found that London, Canterbury and Cambridge are the most e-literate towns in the UK, with Twickenham, Bournemouth and Torquay the least.
Other technically adept towns were Glasgow and Milton Keynes, whereas Doncaster and Derby featured in the list of shame.
The report also found that people working in the IT sector were the most IT-savvy, though surprisingly it found that students were the least clued up.
Other results showed that though 97 per cent of respondents used email, only 67 per cent used social-networking sites and only 29 per cent had created their own blog.
More than 12,000 people took part in the survey and were quizzed on their internet activities including web search, RSS feeds and uploading videos to YouTube.
Even though the results of the survey have been published, you can still take the test at www.howeru.com.
Tim Elkington, managing director of Enhance Media said: "We all probably think we use the internet pretty well but now we can see just how we compare with our friends, colleagues and the rest of the UK.
"With such a fast-moving medium, there’s always going to be someone who’s found something you don’t know about - but that you could benefit from," he continued.
