Woman admits web murder plot

A 49-year-old woman has pleaded guilty to charges of attempting to hire an assassin on the Craigslist website.

Crime

A woman has pleaded guilty to attempting to hire a hitman online in the US.

Anne Marie Linscott has been charged with three offences, each of which carry a maximum 10-year penalty.

She had placed advert on Craigslist.org, a listings website, offering a job on a freelance basis.

Two Californians who replied were asked to "eradicate" a person, unnamed by the court though named in Linscott's email.

She offered $5,000 (around £2,500) for the hit, adding that it was a "serious proposition".

Linscott was alleged to be having an affair with a man identified only as 'Duane' in court documents. A charge that she left an incendiary device outside the home of a rival for Duane's affections was dropped as part of a plea bargaining.

A date for sentencing has not yet been set.
