Windows XP SP3 arrives

Windows XP's third Service Pack, a package of security and performance updates, has been released.

Windows XP

The third Service Pack for Windows XP has finally arrived.

Windows XP SP3 contains a host of updates which will improve performance and security but will not affect the look and feel of the operating system.

Microsoft had expected to release SP3 earlier but it was delayed as engineers struggled with compatibility issues.

However, Windows XP users can now get the update using the Windows Update option in the Tools menu of Internet Explorer 7.

You are strongly advised to back up your system before installing SP3 and it might be a good idea to dig out the driver discs that came with your PC, as well as other software installation discs, just in case.

SP3 will take up 67MB of space on your hard drive.
