Orange launches Liveradio

Orange has launched Liveradio, a device that lets listeners tune into 4,000 web radio stations via their broadband connection.

Web User: Orage launches LiveRadio fan internet radio device from today

Orange, the mobile phone and broadband provider, has entered the internet radio market with its Liveradio device.

The portable device, which connects to a home broadband line, lets listeners tune into up to 4,000 local and international internet radio stations.

Listeners will be able to bookmark songs by pressing the 'bookmark' button on the radio. This will add details of the song to the 'My Favourites' section on the Liveradio website, and give you the option to purchase tracks from the Orange Music Store.

Tracks are priced at 99p. Orange currently has over a million tracks in its catalogue.

Songs purchased online are instantly downloaded to the buyer's computer and mobile phone. The radio can also play most MP3 tracks - except those bought through iTunes - and podcasts.

Mike Newnham, Vice President of Home, Orange UK said: "Liveradio is your passport to the world’s radio waves. Being wireless and battery powered means you can enjoy the vast selection of music, information and entertainment wherever you are."

Figures released from the Radio Joint Audience Research (Rajar) show that about eight million people in the UK listen to internet radio stations at least once a week. Orange will be hoping to catch a slice of the entertainment market with Liveradio.

The device costs £99.99 and can be purchased now via the Orange website or from Orange stores from 1 June.
