UK dial-up lines decrease

Less than 10 per cent of internet connections in the UK are dial-up, according to official statistics. Only 8.4 per cent of the UK's web-connected population have a dial-up line, with more than 90 per cent using some form of broadband, data from the Office of National Statistics (ONS) shows. However, of the UK's broadband connected homes, 43.1 per cent have a connection speed of 2Mbps or lower. Around 50 per cent of broadband connections in the UK have a headline speed of between 2.1Mbps and 8Mbps, with just 6.4 per cent of broadband connections faster than 8Mbps. Recent figures from the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF) showed that the mean average connection speed for broadband connections in the UK was 2.6Mbps. This compares to 4.9Mbps in the US, 17.6Mbps in France, 49.9Mbps in South Korea and 63.6Mbps in Japan. www.statistics.gov.uk www.itif.org
