Watch BBC One online

You will be able to watch BBC One through your PC or laptop by the end of the year, the corporation has said.

BBC One will be available to watch via the internet as well as on traditional TV sets by the end of the year.

You'll still need a television licence, but plans to 'simulcast' the channel will be put into place in the coming months so you'll be able to watch via your PC and laptop.

"BBC One will relaunch its website to include a live channel simulcast, improved listings and programme information as well as unique internet content experiences," the BBC said in its Statements of Programme Policy 2008/2009.

BBC Three is already being simulcast live on the web and rival ITV has broadcast all four of its channels online since last summer.

The BBC said it was part of improving the service offered by its website, which was recently praised by the BBC Trust, though areas where improvements were required were also outlined.

"Building on the success of the iPlayer, we want to develop bbc.co.uk to include a broad range of the BBC's broadcast content, as well as new and interactive forms of media that enable audiences to interact with and contribute to the website," said Mark Thompson, the BBC director-general.
