eBay 'life auction' hits £1m

How much is your life worth? For one Englishman in Australia who put all his worldly possesions up for auction on the internet, including his house, his job and his friends the answer is currently AUS$2.1m (about £1m).

As Web User reported back in March, 44-year-old former rug seller Ian Usher decided to auction off his life following the break-up from his wife.

"I have had enough of my life! I don't want it any more! You can have it if you like!", he announced on his blog, A Life 4 Sale.

Usher, originally from Yorkshire but who now lives in Perth, said he decided to set up the auction after breaking up with his wife because everything in the house was a "reminder of the wonderful past we shared".

He had hoped to recoup the value of his possesions, including his three-bedroom home, a 19-year-old Mazda 929 sedan, a 1986 motorbike and a jetski, by putting the lot up for auction on eBay. The total value of his possesions is thought to be around £230,000.

However, Usher is aware that some of the bidders were "idiots trying to make a name for themselves", but he is confident that there are genuine offers.

His friends and former employer, who are part of the auction deal, have agreed to meet with the successful bidder during a two-week trial period.

Usher said: "On the day it's all sold and settled, I intend to head to the airport, ask where the next flight goes to, get on and see where life takes me from there."

He will have to wait until Friday, when the auction closes, to find out how much his life is worth.
