Firefox 3 sets a world record

If you were one of the 8,002,530 people to download Firefox 3 within 24 hours of its launch then you helped Mozilla set a world record.

Mozilla set an official world record last month after more than eight million people downloaded the Firefox 3 browser in a 24-hour period.

The official total was 8,002,530 downloads in the first 24 hours and this has now been verified as a world record.

If you were one of the eight million then you can download your very own certificate for helping set a Guinness World Record from the Spread Firefox website.

"Our community members came together and not only spread the word, but also took the initiative to help mobilise millions of people to demonstrate their belief that Firefox gives people the best possible online experience," said Paul Kim of Mozilla.

Meanwhile, internet monitoring firm NetApplications noticed a spike in the number of people using Firefox after the launch on 17 June.

"Firefox has made some excellent gains in usage market share the last two months, which would imply a spike in new users of FF3," NetApplications said.

"When examining the browser usage trend over the last two years, the average increase in market share for Firefox is 0.32 per cent per month. For the last two months Firefox has gained an average of 0.635 per cent market share per month, almost double their longer term average."

And visitors to Web User's site would also appear to have embraced Firefox 3 - our statistics show that just 29.8 per cent of visitors were using Mozilla's browser at the beginning of June compared to 36 per cent at the end of the month.
