Brits look online for the Good Life

It seems that the current economic crisis has got Brits thinking about ways of saving money when online.

Far-fetched as the escapades of Tom and Barbara Goode in the Seventies might have seemed, it seems that Brits are getting more interested in the topic of self-sufficiency.

Figures from website monitoring firm Hitwise suggest that surfers in the UK are interested in home-made food and recipes, with a 42 per cent increase in visits to sites in the Food and Beverage - Lifestyle & Reference category since July 2007.

In particular, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall is proving a hit among British surfers. Visits to the official River Cottage website increased by 175 per cent year-on-year, according to Hitwise.

"The focus on self-sufficiency and encouragement of home-grown produce has certainly been popular during a period heavy with fears of recession and rising food prices," said Robin Goad of Hitwise.
