PS3 firmware 2.42 released

A new version of the firmware for the PlayStation 3 console has been released by Sony.
The update, version 2.42, does not include the anticipated 'Life with PlayStation' feature, which will bring news and weather information to the console.
What the update does include, according to Sony, is improved playback quality for "some PlayStation 3 format software".
You will be prompted to install the update the next time you connect to the PlayStation Network.
