Watch swimming gold medal online

Britain struck gold this morning in Beijing, winning an Olympic women's swimming event for the first time in 48 years.

Gold medal

Britain took the gold and bronze medals in the women's 400 metres freestyle this morning and you can watch the action online.

The BBC Sport website has a replay of the race and it is also available to watch through the BBC iPlayer service.

Rebecca Adlington became Britain's first female Olympic swimming champion for 48 years after a stunning final 10 metres to come from behind to win.

Joanne Jackson took the bronze medal for Team GB and the medals can be added to the gold already won by cyclist Nicole Cooke.

On Friday, ISP PlusNet said it saw a surge in traffic at around 1pm, when the Olympic opening ceremony began.

Neil Armstrong, Plusnet’s products director, said: "It looks likely that a lot of traffic was coming from business customers watching from work rather than people at home. The same thing happened with the British Open Golf tournament two weeks ago."

"We expect to this trend to continue throughout the Olympic Games, especially on weekdays when people are away from their TVs at home," Armstrong continued.
