Birmingham uses wrong image

Birmingham City Council has admitted that it mistakenly used an image of Birmingham, Alabama in a new leaflet campaign.

Web User: Birmingham uses American city with same name on leaflet campaign

Only months after three Conservative MEPs used an image of Birmingham in the US on their EU website, Birmingham City Council has distributed 720,000 leaflets carrying a photograph of the Alabama city.

The leaflets are part of a campaign praising residents for exceeding recycling targets.

Under a message that says: "Thank You Birmingham", appears a skyline of the Birmingham in America's deep South and not the Midlands city.

"It's human error," said Birmingham City Council spokesman Kris Kowalewski.

"We accept that the wrong photo was used, but the text and detail contained in the leaflet is wholly correct," he continued.

The skyline features some of Birmingham Alabama's famous buildings and skyscrapers. The gaffe was spotted by a local resident.
