Series stacks to come to iPlayer

The BBC is to introduce 'series stacking', a feature that will make certain shows available for viewing on the iPlayer several weeks after they were first shown.

From 13 September, you will be able to watch any episode of a selected series after it has first been broadcast, for the duration of the entire series.

Programmes to be included in the trial include Tess Of The D'Urbervilles, The History Of Climate Change and BBC Four's The Story Of Maths.

Simon Nelson, controller of Multiplatform and Portfolio for BBC Vision, said: "You'll be able to join a series half way through and catch up on all the previous episodes – or watch them all in one go over a weekend.

"Series stacking marks a key development in our strategy to let audiences view our programmes whenever and wherever they want," Nelson continued.

The feature will first be available through the iPlayer's streaming service, but will be expanded to downloads and within the BBC iPlayer for TV platforms such as Virgin Media in due course, according to the BBC.

The BBC recently introduced improvements to the video and audio quality of the iPlayer service by adopting the H.264 and AAC+ formats.
