Liverpool took on Standard Liege at Anfield and Arsenal faced FC Twente last night in games that would decide whether the English clubs made it through to the Champions League proper.

Liverpool only managed a draw with the Belgian champions in the first leg of the tie two weeks ago and needed a better performance to progress.

Arsenal, on the other hand, held a 2-0 advantage over Steve McClaren's FC Twente and were favourites to qualify for the group stages.

McClaren's recent interview with a Dutch reporter raised eyebrows back in the UK recently, as he adopted a Dutch accent to answer questions put to him.
