What's hot on the web: haberdasher

Web User takes a look at some of today's most popular search terms on the web and the stories behind them.

Web User: Searches for the new Republican VP have increased dramatically

The web is buzzing with searches relating to the US presidential race and one of the most popular searches today, according to Google Trends, is 'haberdasher'.

However, the high level of searches for 'haberdasher' aren't purely due to people wanting to kit out their wardrobe.

Vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin yesterday made a speech in which she compared herself to President Harry S Truman, a former haberdasher.

'Shrill' is another search term that is proving popular today and that's because Democratic Senator Harry Reed described Palin's delivery as such in her speech last night.

Though these searches are very US-centric, research from Hitwise showed that surfers in the UK are very interested in US politics.

Shrill: high-pitched and piercing in sound quality - Dictionary.com.
